Distribution and habitat preferences

It is endemic to Australia. Its natural habitats are open seas, shallow seas, subtidal aquatic beds, coral reefs, estuarine waters, intertidal flats, coastal saline lagoons, and karsts. (Wikipedia)

Adults inhabit inshore waters. Occur in small to large aggregations in weed patches attached to rocks on sand, mostly in Sargassum weeds. (Fishbase)
