©Anne: Double-spotted Queenfish hunting on the reef flat at Hicks Reef (with two Bluefin Trevally below). The dark patch on the dorsal fin and the darker tail are useful for distinguishing the species at a distance.

Distinguishing features

A fast-swimming silver fish with a distinctly dark patch on the dorsal fin. Adults have a double series of six to eight slightly darker blotches, one above and one below the lateral line - these may not be easy to see. The mouth extends to or beyond the rear margin of the eye.
