Distinguishing features
They have a relatively long black bill compared to other scrubwrens. The face and lores are a pale buff colour. The upperparts vary from brown to olive-brown. The underparts are a yellowish white colour. The iris is a dark reddish brown.

Distribution and habitat preferences
They live in densely wooded wet forests and are typically found on trunks and among vines up to the middle story. They almost never forage on the ground.
