Distribution and habitat preferences

It is found in Australia, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, and Solomon Islands. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests and subtropical or tropical moist montane forests.

Australia has two subspecies; marmoratus is found on Cape York Peninsula, plumiferus (known locally as the 'Plumed Frogmouth') is found in SE Queensland. (Wikipedia)
