Photo of Animalia: species: Astreopora myriophthalma (Gaia Guide)

Astreopora myriophthalma at the northern tip of Yonge Reef near Lizard Island. The corallites of this specimen are flatter than usual, possibly due to high energy location.

Identified by Grace Frank, who notes: "This colony does not have the conical shaped corallites that most myriophthalma do, so it looks quite close to A. listeri in appearance. However, the papillae have the typical white tips and the flattened corallites could be due to higher wave action at this reef."
