Distinguishing features

The upperparts are black and are clearly delineated from the white underparts. They have a white ring around the black eye patch.

It has a rounded head and small mouth, with no beak. Males have a rounded dorsal fin while females have smaller and somewhat more triangular dorsal fins.

Their flippers are small and are positioned relatively more toward the front of the body than they are on other species.
