Distinguishing features

A gracile lizard with a smooth, glossy appearance, and relatively small limbs. Usually brown dorsal coloration, with scattered black dots and flecks forming an irregular pattern along the back. Extensive spotting also present on sides of the body. Prominent, obliquely oriented dark bars are visible on the lateral side of the head, extending onto the lower jaws. A single lower labial scale contacts the postmental scale (only visible with hand lens or microscope).

  • Up to 7 cm (Snout to vent length)

Comments

Without a specimen in hand, it may be difficult to distinguish this species from some species of Glaphyromorphus (e.g., G. nigricaudus) that also are reported from the island (e.g., by Limpus, 1982)

Reported by Limpus (1982; as Sphenomorphus pardalis) to be found in open forest and grassland habitats.
