Distinguishing features

The male has a dark gray crown streaked with grayish-white, grayish-olive upperparts, a white throat and breast with contrasting dark streaks and yellowish underparts. Females have a dark spotted rufous crown and an ocher colored breast and flanks. The bold streaking on the male's crown and breast allows it to be distinguished from the similar Plain Antvireo.
