Distinguishing features

Blue to dark grey with darker scale margins, white tail, a dark spot at base of pectoral fin, wavy blue lines on face, dorsal fin rays tipped with black. Indistinct wavy lines on tail, anal fin and rear of dorsal fin.

Distribution and habitat preferences

Adults are found in sandy areas of both lagoon and seaward reefs. They occur in small groups with outcrops of soft coral patches or gorgonians (FishBase).
