Distribution and habitat preferences

Inhabits the continental shelf. Also found in inshore waters (FishBase).

Behaviour

It tucks itself into ledges waiting for prey to swim by. Its large mouth and expandable stomach mean it can eat relatively large fish. The name "frogfish" might be related to the croaking sound it sometimes makes when caught, as well as the frog-like appearance. (John Turnbull)
