Distinguishing features

They are brownish to purple with blackish spots and white marbling. The velvety skin gives the species its common name. They have a long slender body with a prominent dorsal-fin extending from above eyes to the base of the tail. The anterior dorsal-fin spines are high. (Port Phillip Marine Life)
