Interesting facts

  • This Elbow orchid attracts its pollinators through sexual deception. The male wasp attempts to mate with the fuzzy labellum which mimics the pheromone of the female wasp. The labellum is hinged and swings down during pseudocopulation whereupon the wasp makes contact with the column and is loaded with a pollen bundle or deposits pollen it may already be carrying.
