Distinguishing features

The yellow stripe above the eye does not extend beyond mid-body. The lowest white stripe extends along body.

Distribution and habitat preferences

Inhabits sheltered clear water areas of lagoon and seaward reefs. Found in small or large aggregations under ledges, in holes, or even among long spines of sea urchins (FishBase).
