Distinguishing features
A small well-camouflaged goby found on sand at the base of reef, not in groups. Paired dark spots in a row along sides with a darker spot on the tail peduncle. Scales on cheek and opercle.

lacks scales on the cheeks and opercle, and lacks a dark spot at the tail base. Otherwise very similar colour pattern and similar solitary living position on sand at base of reef. Grows larger - to 9.5 cm compared to 6.7 cm for Macrodontogobius wilburi.
