Distinguishing features

Its plumage has a rich brown colour except for the dark slate-grey head, chin and underparts. The plumage is barred in the undertail. Its bill is black and its iris and legs are red.

Distribution and habitat preferences

It is found in American Samoa, Australia, the Cook Islands, Fiji, French Polynesia, Indonesia, Micronesia, New Zealand, Niue, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, Pitcairn, Samoa, Solomon Islands, and Tonga.
