Distinguishing features

A small goby that shares its burrow with alpheid shrimp. Pale with brown oval spots encircled by tiny blueish spots, a small spot between the oval spots along the midside, and a bright white patch on the pectoral fins.

Distribution and habitat preferences

Occurs on fine sand and silt bottoms of subtidal reef flats and lagoons to a depth over 20 m. Uses burrows of alpheid shrimps for refuge. Inhabits coastal sand slopes to about 15 meters depth. (Fishbase)

  • Lizard Island: Abundant in sand adjacent to reef areas in the lagoon.
