Distribution and habitat preferences

In Australian waters, it is only found off Western Australia (Fishes of Australia accessed 2 Dec 2019). Records for the Eastern seaboard are of another species.

Adults occur in lagoons, steep-sided channels, and seaward reefs. Usually found in groups off the sides of vertical drop-offs and overhanging ledges (FishBase).
