Distinguishing features

Its body is a distinctive bright yellow in colour, with a blue or white circle around the eyes and blue behind the operculum. Juveniles have a blue ring on each side. (Wikipedia)

Distribution and habitat preferences

In the Indo-Pacific, they are found from Cocos-Keeling Atoll to the Line, Marquesas and Ducie islands (straying to Easter Island), north to the Ryukyu Islands, south to New Caledonia and Rapa. Common at most oceanic islands except the Carolines. Not reported from Indonesia or Malaysia; nor in Hawaii and Johnston Atoll.

Adults occur in coral rich areas of shallow lagoon and exposed seaward reefs from the lower surge zone.(Fishbase)
