Distinguishing features

Large eye and distinct bump on head. Juveniles have four white vertical bars on a dark body that is paler below and yellowish tail lobes. Bars fade with age, starting with first and last bars. Large adults have no bars, tail loses yellow but often yellow tints on head. A dark spot at base of pectoral fin persists throughout life.
