Early Spring Grass (Eriochloa pseudoacrotricha)

Flowerheads are a primary axis of racemes 7-18 cm long. Spikelets are hairy, 4.5-6 mm long and the apices taper into a bristle. The lower glume is usually a reddish (but also pale to black) swelling (cup-like ring) at the spikelet base.
