Sydney Red Gum (Angophora costata) bark in late Summer

Heathcote National Park, southern outskirts of Sydney, New South Wales. Track from Waterfall Station to Kingfisher Pool. At this season (end of our summer) the Angophoras display their new bark of this rich orange color. You can see the previous season's bark fallen in heaps at the base. Later in the year the bark will have aged to its winter-spring shade, a dull greyish-pink.
