Great Sea Pen (Sarcoptilus grandis)

A sea pen is a colony of specialised animals that work together to filter food from sea water. One animal forms the base, another the stem, and others form the fronds with stinging cells. They are related to bluebottles (also colonies), sea anemones and octocorals.
