along Falcons Lookout Track, Werribee Gorge State Park, near Ballan, Victoria, Australia. Altitude: 400 m amsl. Photographed on 1 September 2011. These ants have quite a bite as I can attest. They do have a venomous bite and can cause anaphylactic shock on occasions. For me the bite was immediately painful, and then my finger did swell a little and was extremely itchy for several days.
