Varirata National Park, Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea. Juvenile. New Guinea endemic. Seeing this bird in Varirata National Park was a completely unexpected bonus for us, we even had to write it into our bird list as no-one on any previous Rockjumper trips had ever seen one! Needless to say I was totally unready for it as it stepped out of the forest onto the track and then quickly back in - the camera was not set up at all for this shot, which was in near-darkness, thus looking like a painting after post processing!
