Western base of Doctor George Mountain, east of Bega, New South Wales All the 62 Australian species formerly included in the genus Stipa have now been segregated into Austrostipa, following cladistic studies. A. rudis is perhaps the most common species in moist coastal south-eastern forests of New South Wales and eastern Victoria.
