Erect, tufted, greyish grass; 20-80 cm tall and covered in velvety hairs. A native of Europe, it is a weed that tolerates a wide range of conditions but is most invasive in wet soils in sunny or semi-shaded sites (e.g. poorly drained pastures, drains, roadsides and wetland margins).
