Distinguishing features

A smooth, moderately large brittlestar that is always coiled tightly around something narrow.

The specimen photographed here is assumed to be Astrobrachion adhaerens because that is the only Astrobrachion species recorded from the Great Barrier Reef. However, the species has not been recorded from Lizard Island before and a specimen needs to be properly examined to determine its identity.
